PUBLISHED!

Something exciting arrived in the post...my first published play. For a lifelong book-lover, this feels magic - pure and simple.

This brand new edition of Pint-Sized Plays - now in its fifth volume - features a selection of winning plays from the past two years of this popular international writing competition. My play, True To You, was the overall winner of Pint-Sized Plays in 2017 and, quite frankly, it only encouraged me. Since its debut at the Pint-Sized Plays Script Slam at Theatr Gwaun in Wales, True To You has been performed in downtown Dubai, on the shores of Lake Michigan, at The Producer’s Club in New York (just off Times Square), and at the Gala Finals of the Short+Sweet Theatre Festival in Sydney, Australia. It’s certainly enjoyed an illustrious, whirlwind world tour, but it all started with Pint-Sized Plays…

This fabulous new volume is available to buy now from the Pint-Sized Plays website and (coming soon) via the Samuel French store.

SPOTLIGHT IN NEW SMITH AND KRAUS BOOK

20190409_191646.jpg

I am excited to have a earned a “spotlight” in this new book - just released by leading US theatre publishers Smith and Kraus - which is on sale now online and at the Theatre Circle store in New York…on the same block as five Broadway theatres. What a wonderful feeling! The featured plays in this year’s edition of this classic book were selected by the team at True Acting Institute as a result of a global playwrighting competition that attracted thousands - yes, thousands! - of entries from around the world. My play, Socialite Networking, is named as one of the Spotlight Award winners for Best Unproduced Play. I’m so pleased and proud to have been recognised alongside such fantastic writers and their winning work.

WATCH: SOCIALITE NETWORKING AT SHORT+SWEET SYDNEY

Can I interest you in a perfectly packaged, one-off video performance of my short comedy Socialite Networking, filmed during its run at the Tom Mann Theatre as part of Short+Sweet Theatre Sydney edition?

I can? Well, hourra et voilà!

Directed by Olga Tamara and starring Rebecca Smee, Kristelle Zibara and Anthony McShane, I just loved this interpretation of one of the very first comedies I penned. The staging, costumes, performances and direction are all impeccable - sheer joy. It is such a privilege (and no little thrill) to experience a paying audience appreciating your work, and this production deservedly won the honour of People’s Choice Showcase finalist for the Sydney edition of Short+Sweet - the biggest little play festival in the world. Many thanks to Olga and the cast for making and sharing this little slice of theatre heaven.

PERFORMANCE PICTURES: FAIR COP AT SCRATCHING THE SURFACE 22/3/19

I’m pleased to share these great images from the performance of Fair Cop at The UnDisposables’ Scratching The Surface new writing night in London on 22nd March, featuring the inestimable talents of Adam Sabatti, Amanda Dahl, Matthew Martin and Hannah Whyman.

It was a hugely enjoyable and memorable evening, and I was delighted with the staging of Fair Cop by Adam, Amanda, Matthew and Hannah. Congratulations to The UnDisposables team on another successful event, and keep an eye out for future productions of this brilliant - and vital - platform for emerging talent.

"IN OR OUT" DEBUTS AT DISPATCHES NEW WRITING NIGHT

I enjoyed a great evening at the OSO Arts Centre in Barnes on Thursday 6th December, where my short comedy “In or Out” made its debut at the Dispatches new writing night.

The popular new writing event, organised by Justin Treadwell, featured a wonderful selection of new plays, staged by a talented group of actors. It was a pleasure to watch the other writers’ work, and I was delighted with the run-through of “In or Out”, so thanks go to Justin and the team for a hugely enjoyable evening at a really rather special venue.

The night was reviewed by Georgia Renwick for Mark Aspen’s theatre blog here.

Hat-trick of plays shortlisted for Short+Sweet Theatre Sydney 2019

A trio of my short plays - “True To You”, “Unlimited Service” and “Socialite Networking” - has been shortlisted for Short+Sweet Theatre Sydney 2019.

The Sydney edition of Short+Sweet is the founding festival - and the largest internationally - and this year celebrates coming of age as it enters its landmark 18th season. The festival continues to grow in stature and reputation each year and, in January, Josh Lawson earned an Oscar nomination (Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film) for The Eleven O'Clock - 13 years after he wrote the original script for Short+Sweet Theatre Sydney.

The full programme for the Sydney festival will be announced in November.

It’s a unique venue and I’m excited to see what the team makes of my piece. I’m also really looking forward to watching the other six new works being staged on the night. I’ll post more details - including how to book tickets - shortly.

"Unlimited Service" at Brisbane Powerhouse

My short comedy "Unlimited Service" has just completed a four-night run at the stunning Brisbane Powerhouse, as part of the Short+Sweet Queensland festival in Brisbane.

Directed by the highly talented Caroline Sparrow of Sparrowland Productions and starring superb acting duo Sean Hutton and Darrell Plumridge, it was a huge pleasure to see this selected and performed at the Short+Sweet Queensland festival, which this year featured original ten-minute pieces spanning daring drama, laugh-out-loud comedy, charismatic cabaret and contemporary performance.

I also just adored the Saul Bass-inspired poster for the show, which was so cleverly designed by Alejandro Hongo.  Congratulations to the entire team on a magnificent production.  You saw them here first!
